There are some events that feel more like a homecoming than a job. That’s exactly how it feels every year when I’m invited back to photograph the House of Mercy Fall Festival in Manassas, Virginia—a community celebration that reminds me why I fell in love with photography in the first place.
Tucked in the heart of Northern Virginia, this event draws people from all over the DMV region—from nearby neighborhoods in Fairfax and Gainesville to families traveling in from Washington, DC and Montgomery County, Maryland. And no matter where they’re from, everyone who attends feels like they belong.
I’ve been photographing House of Mercy events for a few years now, and I always look forward to the Fall Festival. The event is full of life, with volunteers, vendors, live music, food trucks, games, and laughter echoing through the air. From families enjoying the festivities to staff members hard at work making it all happen, every moment offers a chance to capture authentic joy and connection.
This year’s festival was no exception—bright skies, big smiles, and a huge turnout made for a day full of memorable moments.
When I photograph events like this, I don’t come with a shot list. I come with open eyes, quick reflexes, and a heart tuned to the rhythm of the crowd.
I’m watching for:
This is documentary-style event photography, and it’s all about capturing moments you can’t stage—because they’re too honest, too spontaneous, and too full of life.
Photographing nonprofit events like the House of Mercy Fall Festival is never just about capturing beautiful images—it’s about honoring the mission behind the moments.
The team at House of Mercy always makes me feel like part of something bigger. From the moment I arrive, I’m not just a photographer on-site—I’m a partner in their purpose. They understand that photography can do more than document a day; it can amplify a cause, deepen connections, and celebrate the people who make the work possible.
The images I create during their events have been used in:
These photos help preserve the heart of the mission long after the tents come down and the last food truck leaves the lot. For organizations like House of Mercy, great event photography becomes a legacy—a visual narrative that highlights the volunteers, uplifts the community, and invites others to get involved.
After years of photographing nonprofit and community events across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area, I’ve learned one thing: the impact lives in the details. And it’s my privilege to capture those details with purpose.
Whether you're planning a fall festival in Manassas, a nonprofit gala in DC, or a community outreach program in Montgomery County, I’d love to help you document it in a way that feels real, emotional, and unforgettable.
I specialize in authentic, documentary-style event photography across the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area. From Northern Virginia to downtown DC and the suburbs of Maryland, I capture the moments that matter most—the laughter, the impact, the connection.
If you're a nonprofit, charity, or community organization looking to highlight your mission and the people behind it, let's work together to tell your story with heart.
